• The ping response time doesn't reflect the real network response time

  I encountered a weird problem that the response time returned by ping is almost fixed at 98ms. Either I ping the gateway, or I ping a local host or a internet host. The response time is always around 98ms although the actual delay is obvious. However, the reverse ping (from a local machine to this host) works properly. • Could a too low voltage during long periods damage my computer fan?

  Computer fans use to run at 12Volt, but most as for today they allow 9Volt or even less to slow down the fan speed (RPM, Revolutions Per Minute). In cases of too low voltage, the fan stops, but I can see it "trying to start again". For example: my Tacens 9dB fan stops at about 10 Volts, but to start it again, 10.5Volt is not enough, and the engine tries to move the fan (I can see a small movement as an "attempt" to move) each 1-5 seconds, but it does not succees, so the fan keeps at 0 RPM. Maybe that "attempt" to move could damage the internal engine of the fan when it last for hours or days?

• Crossover cable in addition to normal network connection on servers?

  I have 2 servers, both with Windows 2003 R2 Each have 2 NIC ports that are 10/100/1000 They are both connected to our LAN + joined to the domain (1 NIC port free on each server) The problem is that our main router is only 10/100 on the ports that these servers are connected to. Since one server is going to host SQL 2005 and the other will be running Altiris NS7, I was hoping that I could use a crossover cable to connect the two directly, thus taking advantage of their 1gbps NIC cards. Is this possible? If so what steps do I need to take to accomplish this? What needs to be done to make sure that when the app server is communicating with the SQL server that it is using the direct link vs traversing the LAN? Thanks a lot!

  Im having troubles while im trying to connect from linux to Windows CE, via VNC viewer.   What are the options for backup software for: HOST - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with HyperV VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Exchange 2010 VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SQL Express / SharePoint VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Terminal Services (10 users working on it) VIRTUAL - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with AD/DNS What I'm looking at is possibility of having an offsite backup thru FTP, maybe copy to usb/esata/lan drives for easy taking backup data outside of company. What I've been looking at: - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 System Recovery has an offsite backup but I would need 5 licenses and it doesn't have granular recovery. - Symantec Exec Backup 2010 seems OK but a bit expensive - Microsoft DPM 2010 requires full SQL Standard and for each machine I would need 4 Enterprise licenses. But does it allow Offsite backup without need for additional license and server outside of company (for doing DPM backup of DPM). What other options? This is 10 people company and so the costs matter but also convenience and security. Offsite backup is requirement.

• OpenGL support no longer available

  I've been using OpenGL hardware acceleration in programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe After Effects CS4. I've noticed that recently the options for OpenGL previews are disabled because my graphics card seems to not support OpenGL. But that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I know for a fact that my graphics card does have support for OpenGL and it worked before. I checked for driver updates just the other day. Anybody know what's going on?   The Samsung NC10 seems to be a very popular netbook. I am confused about which netbook is it's natural 'big brother'. I.e. I want an 11" - 12" screen and have looked at both the NC20 and the N510. • How can I troubleshoot Virtualbox port forwarding from Windows guest to OSX host not working?

  There are a plethora of questions about virtual box port forwarding problems but none with my specific details. I have a Windows install living in Virtual Box, hosted within OSX. I've got several webservers running on localhost on different ports within the Windows install. I cannot for the life of me get port forwarding to work so I can access those webservers from OSX. • iTunes command+tab does not bring main window the foreground after command+h

  Related to : Cmd-Tab does not bring iTunes to foreground There people claim that command+h will continue to work, but the behavior I'm seeing is: Launch a full screen Terminal instance (or anything else really) Launch a fresh iTunes command+h to hide it command+tab back to iTunes, this works and the main app window is given focus command+tab to Terminal command+tab to iTunes What I expect to happen: the main iTunes window is brought to the foreground and given focus. What does happen: The application menu bar shows iTunes, but an additional command+` is needed to bring the main app to foreground. I thought it might have been related to a Chrome interaction, since I'm usually commmand+tabbing between my browser and everything else, but that does not seem to be the case. I do have two "plugins" running: last.fm scrobbler Alfred app mini itunes player interface Not sure if either of those create some phantom window or something that is mixing something up. Versions of stuff: OS X: 10.6.5 iTunes: 10.1.1 (4) last.fm: can't find it, but it's recent Alfred: 0.8 (89) So after that big long rant, anyone else seeing this behavior?

When the PHP crashes (or more accurately, httpd) the CPU goes 100% for 10 to 15 seconds until it recovers. I need to use the GD module and keep the Mac mini PowerPC. • Using optimization to assign by preference

  I have 100 objects ("candies") that I need to distribute between five people so that each has an equal number of candies (in this case, 20 candies per person). However, each person has also expressed their preferences of candy to me in a chart, similar to below. Top-favored candies receive 10 points, least-favored candies receive -10 points, and neutral-favored candies receive 0.5 points. I need to sort the items out so that: Each person receives the same number of candies Each person's total "satisfaction" (points) is maximized My output is a list of each person's assigned items I'm familiar with Excel's in-house Monte Carlo simulation tools (Solver, F9 diceroll, etc) and would like to stick to those tools. While I know how to set up the chart, and how to use the column summation to input into Solver, I don't know how to get it to give me the desired output. Furthermore, how do I adjust the solver so it takes into account individual preferences rather than empirical ones? To wit: how do I begin setting up this model?

  I looking for ip changer what is faster than PROXY (i tried Elite Proxy Switcher + Firefox add-on, but it's too slow. I set automatic switching to 4 sec and yes he change the ip every 4 sec however it's not enough because it loads pages very slowly.) Secondly I tried the TOR Project but this is not good..because the TOR would be nice and working good however he needs more than 10 seconds, a new identity and it's not to good for me because i want to change my ip lass than 10 sec. So I find the solution. This is IPfucker alias ipFlood (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox.../ipflood/) But it does not work on all sites unfortunately...because this is just simulation "Simulate the use of a series of proxy changing at each new connection.".   Am following "secrets to powershell remoting" to setup an SLL account and seem to be missing a step.
